Boston, Massachusetts...

Today wasn’t as much about out port of call in the wonderful city of Boston, but more about spending the day with people who have been wonderful friends for over 50 years…  Jack Hembrough and I met in 1967 when we started school at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  I met his wife, Candy, while we were in pilot training in Laredo Texas in 1971.  They are pictured in this blog, on the beach…  So today, we covered a lot of territory, catching up on old times and getting a nice look around the Boston, Cambridge, Concord, and Lexington area…    We started up with a pickup at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in the Boston Seaport district crossed over Moakley Bridge over Ft Point Channel.  Got to see a lot of sights along the way such as Long Wharf, over the “Big Dig”, the Old State House, Boston City Hall and Faneuil Hall.  We visited their home in Cambridge for a little discussion about our plan for the day and I said just spending time together was good for me.  Off we went again exploring Cambridge and Harvard. I took photos as we went along but the best part was just being with friends...  I enjoyed visiting the Cambridge Common (Green) with the Lincoln Statue and the Irish Famine Memorial. I also got to see the Cannon from Fort Ticonderoga where George Washington assumed command 4 Jul 1775.  I loved seeing the church where George & Martha Washington would attend and the Old Graveyard next to Jack & Candy’s old house (quiet neighborhood).  We had lunch at the Concord Inn which was fabulous… Next, we visited the North Bridge Battle Site and Minuteman statue.  Then it was on to Lexington Green and the Minuteman statue near the Buckman Tavern, gathering place for the Lexington Militia.  The whole day was amazing!  You learn very quickly how much you’ve missed such treasured friends…  The friendship picked up as if we had seen each other recently, rather that many years ago…  Hope to visit with them again, the sooner the better.  Thanks Jack & Candy for a wonderful day… Once I got back to the ship, I decided to take photos as we sailed away from Boston, to make up for the poor weather conditions in the morning.  It was blue skies and sunshine as we sailed onward to Florida… What an amazing day!!!!
