Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia...

Today’s approach to Sydney Harbor was through dense fog but it did clear just before we arrived.  It was a late morning sail into Sydney and in the company of three other ships…one a Princess ship and the other the Borealis, the former Holland America Rotterdam.  It brought back fond memories of the 2009 Grand World Voyage that I sailed on the ms Rotterdam…  This was the first day the port was open since Hurricane Fiona blasted the area September 23 and 24, 2022.  Our friend Laura picked us up for a tour of the area.   Another beautiful fall day in Nova Scotia…we were on the lookout for lighthouses and fall colors, so we decided to try a drive to the Cabot Trail.  Tucked away on the northernmost tip of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton is the jewel of the Canada’s East Coast. The Cabot Trail is majestic with its rocky coast, glacial valleys, mountains, lush forests and sweeping plateaus the island offers a wonderful diversity of landscapes.  We stopped in St Ann’s for a break, and I had the most delicious triple berry crumble.  Due to time constraints, we turned back at the Margaree Valley and made a quick stop at Baddeck.  Baddeck is a picturesque, vibrant little village right in the heart of Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island set on the shores of the great inland body of water known as the Bras d’Or Lakes.  Another great day in Cape Breton.   It was great to see our friend Laura again, especially after all she’s been through dealing with Fiona.
