Saguenay, Quebec, Canada... Part 1 of 2

The sail-in to Saguenay the weather was perfect winding through the fjords and I was able to get a photo the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary…however, shortly thereafter, the closer we came to La Baie the fog rolled in.  We were hopeful the weather would hold as today we planned to head for the Saguenay National Park. Our driver Andre from Taxi 2151, was waiting for us at the cruise port.  The weather was not promising but we took a chance and made our way to the park via Anse Saint Jean a quaint little village.  We stopped at the Couvart Covered Bridge; this bridge is famous for being on the Canadian $1000 bill. Known for its stunning fjords, beautiful coastal landscapes, and rugged mountains, Saguenay Fjord National Park is a provincially protected area. The fjords are beautiful at this time of the year with splendid fall colors.  We followed the fjord route and passed many small towns and harbors along the route. We climbed up to L’Anse de Tabatiere at the top of a cliff this window on the Saguenay Fjord yields a breathtaking view of one of the longest fjords in the world. Starting our route back to the park we stopped at Cape Trinity in Eternity Bay and walked the park trail to take in the breathtaking vista of the Saguenay Fjord…walking the trail gave us as a better appreciation of the autumn colors.  On our return to the ship, we made a quick stop at the monument dedicated to the 1996 flood victims known as the Pyramid.  We also took a few moments to amaze ourselves with the huge numbers of geese that flocked to the area…  I have never seen so many in one place. This day turned out much better than I ever expected, the fog cleared, rain held off and the tree colors were at their peak.  I found myself taking photos at almost every bend in the road.  Today was the most photos that I have taken on any day since joining the Nieuw Statendam, a tribute to the beauty of the Saguenay region…   The Saguenay Region, of Quebec is a beautiful area of Canada and well worth a visit. Tonight, we are having a farewell dinner for Ann and Cathy as they are getting off the ship in Quebec City tomorrow…they will rejoin me December 3, 2022, and hopefully earlier.
