Saint John, New Brunswick...

Another foggy sail in, seems like fog and fall go together!  This morning was quite a bit different; the fog added an artistic quality missing from the complete zero visibility fog.  The fog banks kept moving about exposing various parts of the landscape and city, it was quite nice…  for photos.  Today, I was meeting up with my friends Kevin & Gary whom I met on the Amazon Voyage on the Volendam back in 2019.  Hard to believe it’s been three years.  Anyway, when I met them, the lived in Toronto in their house for 25 years until last year when they sold their home and moved to New Brunswick.  They are an amazing couple…  Love traveling with them!  Today, our goal was to visit Deer Island, via ferry and hit some colorful scenery along the way and a couple of waterfalls…  So off we went to Deer Island Deer Island is surrounded by the high tides of the Bay of Fundy and is located at the mouth of Passamaquoddy Bay near the border of the Province of New Brunswick and the State of Maine. Deer Island has three communities – Fairhaven, Leonardville and Lords Cove. Deer Island sits about 4 km (3 mi.) from Letete, New Brunswick. We took the Coastal Transport ferry ride from Letete to the Deer Island. The island is home to the famous Old Sow, the largest tidal whirlpool in the western hemisphere.  Deer Island Point Park has breathtaking views and some lovely spots to have a picnic. While we were on the island we visited Chocolate Cove for breathtaking views, Fairhaven for the lighthouse.  We also had the opportunity, before returning to the ship to visit St. George Falls and Lepreau Falls.  It was a great day filled with the Fall colors of Canada, amazing scenery and catching up with some wonderful friends…  Thanks Gary & Kevin for a wonderful day!  And the day ended with another special treat, I got to visit with my dear friend Lori Seymour who I sailed on many Grand Voyages  with when she was part of the Cruise Directors Staff.  I’ve known her since 2006 and she hasn’t changed one bit, she still brightens up any room she enters….  Love New Brunswick!!!
