I rose early this morning to get some sail in photos...it
was a cold day in Iceland, by far our coolest day yet. We also got the first tender
ashore to the hub of the Westfjords and the region’s largest town with a
population of just over 2000. Isafjordur is a pleasant place, set on an arching
spit that extends out into Skutulsfjordir and is hemmed on all sides by the
towering peaks and deep waters of the fjord. We did a two-hour walking tour of
the town with its old timber and tin clad buildings...most of the homes are
unchanged and were built in the late 19th century, which in Iceland is
considered very old. We walked along the harbor and down the main street past
the shops and restaurants on our way back to the tender pier. After touring the
town, we returned to the ship for a relaxing day. This was our last port in
Iceland and I am anxious for our next stop Greenland, my birthplace....
