An early morning arrival in Rotterdam to fog and drizzle...we
had limited time in Rotterdam to do any touring as we were going to Delft with Mirelle
and Phillip Stolte. Before Mirelle arrived, we walked to see the Hotel New York
the original headquarters of Holland America Line. We caught up with Mirelle and
off to Delft we went… We had a great reunion with Phillip at their
home and visited for a while before heading out to see Delft. The Stolte’s live
in the center of Delft so we did a walking tour of this lovely town. Delft is
just like a painting with its canals and beautiful streets...we walked to the
Delft New Church dominating the Market Square...the streets were busy with
shoppers as it was Market day...we continued to meander the streets seeing the
old church, the Town Hall and returned to the square...Mirelle and I climbed at
least 376 steps of a very narrow stairway to the spire of the New Church while
Ann, Cathy and Phillip waited for us in the square. We had a great lunch at an award-winning
restaurant on a canal barge. After lunch we went on a cruise through the canals
of Delft and walked to the Old City Gate before Phillip drove us back to the
ship. It was a wonderful day with friends and their welcoming hospitality.
Today, is the start of our final cruise before returning to Boston and we have
some exciting ports ahead of us and looking forward to Iceland, Greenland and
Canada.
