Fort-De-France, Martinique...

We got off the ship before the general announcement and started our walk along the waterfront towards Fort Saint-Louis. We walked by the Savane Park, the Post Office to the Schoelcher Library, where we stopped to visit inside of the library. From here tracing our regular route to get the best shot of the Calvaire Chapel overlooking the city. Next, we stopped at the Cultural Center…a tent camp has been set up taking over the area by an Anti-Pollution Protest group…. There has been a continuing theme of protests on every visit to Martinique. Instead of going to the Cathedral, we went down Perrinon Street taking photos of buildings and came upon a major shopping area on Republican Street a pedestrian mall. This area had great architecture. Circling back, we made our way to St. Louis Cathedral and the Place Monseigneur Roméro. From the church was headed back to the ship via the pedestrian mall. Back on the ship we spent the rest of the day in the Retreat…another sail away party in the Retreat this afternoon hosted by our friend Joe Pupa, as we sailed away from Fort-de-France and our sail past Mount Pelée. Life is good on the Rotterdam!
