Day 13 Transiting the Panama Canal

It was an early morning as we lined up to transit the Panama Canal…..  It turned out to be a lovely, albeit, very hot day for the transit.  No matter how many times I do this, I always find it interesting.  I’ll be back here on the 9th of January for the World Voyage.  It turned out to be a very nice day.  And now for an update on the internet here on the Amsterdam…  Initially, after a few startup bugs, I said the new system was pretty good, maybe a little faster than the old system.  My optimism, at this point, it pretty much gone.  The system has not been functioning very well.  It is very inconsistent, at times much slower than it should be and overall a big disappoint.  The people on the ship are doing a great job in trying to sift through the problems and get the system where it needs to be.  The new operator, apparently hasn’t done their homework!  I hope I’ll be able to report better news in the future but right now at 4:06 in the morning, this is the best I can do….

  2. Jeff, it sounds as though the new internet system might have been set up by the same people that set up the Obamacare website. Sorry, couldn't help myself. The Panama Canal always fascinates no matter how many times you do the transit, as do your pictures. I am always amazed at how you show us a different perspective each time. Thanks for all your patience with the onboard service and a very Happy New Year with smooth sailing ahead. Hope your knee is better. Beachlady

  3. Are those big things in the last picture gates for the new canal? I agree, no matter how many times you see it, the canal is an amazing feat.

  4. had to put up with the MTNDSI internet company still on the Maasdam for the 42 day Europe Oct-Dec.. arrrrgghhh is all I can say... Maasdam is in DryDock as of yesterday and supposedly doing the new system upgrade..or is it downgrade.. you would think in this Tech era some major company that knew what they were doing could provide decent satellite internet at sea.. or maybe the ones that have it don't want to make it faster on purpose.. the slower it is the more minutes get eaten up..

enjoy your World Cruise once again on the 5th :)
