San Diego, California...

Here we are, once again in San Diego….  This begins our final voyage on the Koningsdam.  As most of you are aware by now, we faced some challenges last voyage with some cases of COVID-19 amongst the crew which caused us to miss the port of Puerto Vallarta.  I need to be clear, at no time did I feel as if we were in danger of getting exposed to the virus, at least no more than usual.  Don't believe all the sensationalized articles floating about, they are garbage...  I commend Captain Draper for his outstanding leadership in helping us all navigate through these difficult times…  The health and safety protocols and constant sanitization creates a pretty safe environment, at least in my opinion.  I wouldn’t be on this 6 ½ month journey if I felt otherwise.  That being said, constant vigilance is always in order, washing our hands, wearing a proper mask and social distance as much as possible.  I did think it was a little over the top when I saw baggage handlers, picking up luggage from new guests with hazmat suits on, next thing you know baggers at the grocery store will want them...  We get tested weekly onboard the ship and it is a bit of a nervous time because, no matter how careful you are, there is always the chance of exposure.  This being our last voyage on the Koningsdam, our test this coming Saturday, is the most important test to date.  We have to pass it to continue our journey and transfer ships on the 2nd of January to the beloved Zuiderdam.  With all that in mind, Ann, Cathy & I have decided to minimize our exposure to the maximum extent possible on this final voyage.  We will not be going ashore in ports of call, including San Diego today.  I will continue taking photos from the ship where possible and blogging…  Today was a beautiful day in San Diego, with just a bit of chill in the air.  It was a beautiful day in the Retreat and the sail away didn’t disappoint…  Life is good!

  1. Hi Jeff, What a beautiful sunset. Glad you have the Retreat to do any necessary distancing on your last voyage on the Koningsdam. I'm sure the days will pass quickly this week. It's nice that you've visited the ports many times so staying on board will be an easy choice.
May all your precautions prove successful and your transfer to the Zuiderdam goes smoothly.
