It was a great sail in to San Francisco under the Golden Gate Bridge… Unlike previous visits, we had a scheduled arrival into San Francisco of 10:00 as opposed to the previous visits where we arrived at 7:00 am. It certainly provided better views of the bridge but on the negative side, I do love sailing in while the city skyline is all lit up in the dark. It was a nice change in the end… We got off the ship as soon as we docked and headed along the waterfront to Pier 39… We checked out a few shops, snapped some photos of the sea lions and the marina. We continued our walk past Fisherman’s Wharf to the Maritime Museum, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. The Park, located at Hyde Street Pier includes a fleet of historic vessels (Alma, Balclutha, Hercules and the Eureka), a maritime museum, and a library/research facility. Unfortunately, only one ship the C.A. Thayer was available to tour today. From the Museum we walked to Victoria Park and up to Ghirardelli Square…a full city block of 19th century brick buildings, formerly factories of various kinds, repurposed into a charming collection of restaurants and shops. The buildings are arranged around a "square", with a mermaid fountain and places to sit. On our return to the ship was passed San Francisco’s iconic Power and Hyde Cable Car Turnaround. We walked back to the ship and spent the late afternoon in the Retreat…couldn’t have asked for better weather. Tonight, I went out for some nighttime photos of the city while Ann & Cathy took a scenic tour of the city at night… Beautiful day!!!!
