Back in Avalon, Catalina Island today! What a difference two days make; daylight savings time gave us early morning day light. The early morning was a bit overcast and certainly a bit on the chilly side but we fully expected that to improve as the day went on. We got the first tender and decided to repeat our golf cart tour around the island…A fun way to see all the amazing sights of Avalon and its surrounding hills. While Ann lined up to get our golf cart, Cathy and I walked Avalon’s waterfront , with its clear, blue water on one side and colorful shops on the other. Today, I walked on the Green Pleasure Pier. The pier is also a great spot to take photos. We continued along the waterfront toward the Catalina Island Casino, the large, round building visible from most any place in Avalon. Along the way, we passed a few historic buildings, including the Tuna Club of Avalon and the Catalina Yacht Club. We returned in time to coincide with the opening of the Catalina Island Golf shop and we were off for a two-hour tour of the island. About halfway through our golf cart adventure we stopped and visited the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Gardens, a lovely place to learn about the island’s native plants while also from the memorial a commanding view of Avalon Bay. I climbed up to the Wrigley Memorial, built between 1933 and 1934 to honor the life and legacy of the man responsible for both the development and protection of the island. We really enjoyed our time in Avalon. Returning to the ship we enjoyed the pleasant weather in the Retreat and visits from the Smiths and Halls. To add to my day, I enjoyed a relaxing 75 minute massage at the Spa… my legs feel like jelly...
