Mazatlán, Mexico... Part 1 of 2

I got up early for sail in and was too late as we had already arrived in Mazatlán. Cathy and I left the ship as soon as it was cleared and followed the “Blue Line” through the historic old district of Mazatlán to the Machado Square. At the square, we decided to hire Martin, a Pulmonia driver to take us on a tour of Old Mazatlán. We made arrangements to start the tour after we visited some surrounding blocks to see wall art. Today was my first return to Constitution Avenue since my experiences of 2013. We made it back to Marchado Square, found Martin and off we went…today’s focus was touring Old Mazatlán. Continuing along we arrived at Republic Square across from the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Following a quick visit to the church we visited the Central Market. We made a thorough visit of Old Mazatlán seeing many old buildings, homes and plenty of wall art. The climb up the El Mirador to a viewpoint well above the city is always a welcome experience. Our timing was perfect to catch two high cliff drivers do their dives before returning to the ship. Martin was a very knowledgeable guide so we decided to reserve his services for our stop next week in Mazatlán. We spent the afternoon in the Retreat with the Hall’s and had a visit from the Leslie High, Nancy, Lucia and Henk Barnhoorn …it is like old home week in the Retreat with our World Cruise alumni…..another beautiful day in the mid 90’s.
