It was an early morning sail into the port of Mazatlán… It was very hazy and smoky as we came into port. Once we were docked, Cathy & I left the ship and walked into town following the “Blue Line”, the most heavily patrolled and enjoyable direct route through the historic district. Many of the public parks and squares, in addition to the historic buildings in the Old District in Mazatlán, have been refurbished while keeping their authentic Mexican charm. We walked along the narrow streets passing the Plaza Macado to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. After visiting the cathedral, we hired a Pulmonia an open-air golf cart type taxi and driver to take us around the city. We drove up the El Mirador to see the view of the city. We descended the El Mirador and headed north along the oceanfront malecón through the Golden or hotel zone, which offers the spectacular scenery of Mazatlán's beaches and islands. The malecón, the second largest in Latin America is freshly paved for bikers and pedestrians alike and has many beautiful public works of art to enjoy along the way. On our return to the pier, we drove to Lookout Hill to admire the port's coastline and bay. We returned to the ship and went directly to the Retreat…a very hot day… loving the 99 degree heat index. Another great day on this adventure….
