I was out early this morning as we sailed into the port of Falmouth, Jamaica. We were off the ship as soon as we received the all clear from the Jamaican authorities. We wandered through the Falmouth Cruise Port and headed towards town. The terminal is located between two piers that we shared today with the Disney Fantasy and has a large retail shopping complex housed in brick buildings designed in similar to British Georgian architecture that recreate the colonial ambiance found in the Town. The port is also considered to be one of the safest and most hospitable ports in Jamaica for tourists to explore on their own. Falmouth has lots of local color, markets and popular street food. We took a walk-through Falmouth's Historic District and Water Square to explore the town. From small wooden houses to brick Georgian mansions to plantation complexes, many of the buildings are still intact. We made our way to the Pescadaria Fishing Village on the outskirts of town that I had visited on previous trips to Falmouth. This village is a group of makeshift homes…with very welcoming residents. We were happy to have ventured into town and get a glimpse into the local life. The remainder of the day was spent in the sun…. the weather was beautiful, albeit very, very hot... We had a very pleasant day in Falmouth. By the way, the locals in Falmouth are very friendly, welcoming and a pleasant change from many other Jamaican ports.
