Basseterre, Saint Kitts

Another early morning for sail-in to St Kitts. It is a busy day with four ships in port, Princess Sky Princess, Aida Bella and Luna. Basseterre is St. Kitts’ capital and a charming, albeit runned down West Indian town. We got off the ship as soon as we were cleared. Walking through the port we stopped at a few stores before going to town. Today, we took an off the beaten path tour of the town winding through streets taking in the sites and chatting with the locals. We did see the Berkley Memorial or the big clock in the area known as the Circus, modeled after London’s’ Piccadilly Circus, as well as a number of historical sites, such as the National Museum and Independence Square, once a slave Market Place. We also made stops at St. George’s Anglican, Wesley Methodist and Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Churches. Getting off the ship early has its benefit as there were throngs of passengers going ashore on our return to the ship. It was a great day in St. Kitts….
