Volendam Amazon Explorer, Manaus, Brazil, Part 2 of 2

I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed with the crowds in the streets when I went ashore in Manaus….  Apparently, everyone goes out on Sundays….  Seems like a fair number of the 2 million plus residents were out for the local street markets…..  It was very chaotic but that just added to the atmosphere.  I met a couple from the ship from Montreal, Faith & Lee and joined them for a walkabout the city…  We headed to the Teatro Amazonas, the big highlight for Manaus.  The theater was built during the rubber boom and completed back in 1896.  Pretty amazing place way out here in the middle of the Amazon.  The other hightlight (other than wandering the streets) was visiting the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market.  The market, also built during the rubber boom in the 1880s.  The ‘s metallic structures were built in Paris and shipped to Manaus.  The market offered many things from fish, fruits, spices and souvenirs…  Allan & Sandra and I had a nice visit there….  I picked up a number of trinkets… Now we are sailing to another port in the Amazon, Parintins….
