Isafjordur, Iceland... Part 1 of 2

A beautiful sail into Isafjordur, Iceland albeit a bit cold out on the forward deck. This time in Isafjordur we tendered and we got off early. Isafjordur is the largest town in the Westfjords region. Traditionally, Isafjordur was a fishing village whose success was directly tied to however fishing industry fared. Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in the area despite its remoteness. On our previous visit to Isafjordur two weeks ago, we did a tour to the Dyjandi Waterfalls. Today, we decided to concentrate our efforts on visiting the town. It's located at the head of the fjord and surrounded by the astonishing scenery. Isafjordur's Old Town is a well-preserved area of historic buildings dating back to the 18th century. These brightly colored buildings were once used as trading posts, homes, and warehouses, but they now give visitors a glimpse into the town's past and make it a very picturesque place to explore and photo-worthy. When we first more reflections but that was not to be…later in the morning we tried again and the reflections along the marina were spectacular…a happy photographer!!!   On our way back to the ship, we visited the Westfjords Heritage Museum, a nice stop. Our stop today in Isafjordur was typical Iceland, the setting is truly beautiful, the bay, mountains, and the scenery make this place outstanding. Another great day in Iceland.  On a more somber note, it was a very sad day on the Zuiderdam for Ann, Cathy and I as our beloved friend Bradley Warren Elliott passed away last night. We had the privilege to travel with him on many cruises, as well Brad and I did a long road trip to the western United States a few years back. He will be sorely missed. “May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.” Rest in peace my friend!
