Grundarfjörður, Iceland... Part 2 of 2

I was up very, very early for sail in and it was stunning with the backdrop of Kirkjufells (church mountain). Grundarfjörður is our last port in Iceland, it is a charming fishing village located on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. We started our day with a 45-minute hike to the Grundarfoss waterfall outside of the town. It was an interesting walk-through farmers’ fields, scaring sheep, wet feet, birds attacking and flies swarming. I did like meeting up with a number of Icelandic horses along the way.  Despite the impediments, we got to enjoy views of Grundarfoss as well as Kvernárfoss waterfall located on the farm next door. On our walk back through a farm pasture, the farm owner stopped to say hello and gave us permission to hike up to his waterfall. When we returned to town, we got the bus to Kirkjufells Mountain and the beautiful Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall. Often called ‘the most photographed mountain in Iceland, Kirkjufell is a beautiful stand-alone peak, made even more charming by the waterfall Kirkjufellsfoss nearby. The bus driver had quite the operation going, the express bus and great hand magnets for sale. Returning to Grundarfjörður, we took a pleasant walk around town, visiting the Church and the Orca Sculpture. We returned to the ship and with the picture-perfect weather, I spent an hour catching up on renewing my base tan. This was our first visit to Grundarfjörður and we thoroughly enjoyed this lovely little fishing town with a population less than 900....  We definitely had them outnumbered.
