We had a really pretty drive from Zagreb to Ljubljana,
the capital city of Slovenia. Checked into our rooms and headed for the Ljubljana
Castle and toured the town to get our bearings. In the morning, we had a guided
walking tour of the old city center of Ljubljana. Ljubljana is beautiful little
city, with Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings.... We left our hotel and made our
way to the Preseren Square adjacent to the Triple Bridge, then we walked to the
Butchers Bridge, the Dragon Bridge and over the Ljubljana River which separates
the old town. Next, through the Market Square we stopped at the beautiful St.
Nicholas Cathedral. We continued to walk around the town to see the sites, like
the Town Hall, National Museum, Parliament, Post Office, Summer Theatre....it
was nice to meander through the streets and squares to see the architecture and
the historic atmosphere of the old town...crossing the river over the Cobbler
Bridge towards the hotel we passed a Sunday Flea Market, Library, University
Faculty Buildings and the Opera House. We had a good tour with Allan our guide
and he got us back to our hotel in time to meet our next driver/guide Mitja for
our trip to Lake Bled which will be posted separately… We got back early enough from Lake Bled, so I
was able to go up the Skyscraper building in Ljubljana to get some nice
panoramic photo of the city and the Castle perched high on the hill… Then, I was able to get a much needed 90-minute
massage... Feeling good! Slovenia was a wonderful, wonderful
experience.
