This was our second trip to Rostock, Germany, the first
time we went to Berlin…. For this visit,
we took the shuttle into Rostock for a walking tour. Our big trip begins
tomorrow so we decided to take it fairly easy today. The center of Rostock is the old town
medieval style from Hanseatic times...
We passed St. Mary’s Cathedral, the largest church in the city and then
onto the Rostock Rathaus/Town Hall overlooking the New Market Square. To the
right of the Square was the city gate of stone and house of estates with
inscription, seal and coat of arms. From a distance we could St. Peters and St.
Nicholas Churches and made our way to see both of them. Returning to the Market
Square we passed the oldest house in Rostock, House of Krahnstover, a Gothic
merchants house built in 1376, as well as many other merchants houses from the
Middle Ages. We strolled along the Kropeliner Strasse, the shopping street,
stopped for a coffee and then I climbed the Kropeliner Tower...I got my steps
in but the views were not as expected. We had a nice day in Rostock and
returned to the ship to finalize packing for our Eastern European adventure
tomorrow.
