Andrew our driver picked us up at the hotel and off we
headed for Zagreb, Croatia...the Serbian/Croatian border was an hour west of Belgrade...with
the long lines at the border crossing, it took us over an hour to enter
Croatia. On arrival in Zagreb we met our tour guide Diana. We had two hours to discover
the sights of Zagreb on a walking tour of the Lower Town and Upper Town. I
spent those two hours running around like a chicken with its head cut off
trying to see and experience all that I could in such a short period of time…. Pity I couldn’t have had a couple of days
here to visit my friend Suzanna… Our first
stop was the twin spires of the Cathedral of the Church of the Assumption, in
the former walled district of Kapitol we walked through the Dolac Farmer Market
and up to the Stone Gate and then onto St. Mark Square where the Parliament and
President’s residence flank the colorful roof of St. Mark's Church...next we
went up to Lotrščak Tower that I climbed to great views of the city. From here
we took the Zagreb Funicular down to the lower town and walked on the main
shopping street to the bustling Ban Jelacic Square. Crossing the street to the
Praska Avenue we strolled to Zrinskog Square...making our way to Strossmayera
Park then onto Tomislava Square across from the main train station...we were
met by our driver Andrew and said farewell to our Zagreb guide Diana...a
beautiful city...a great day spent in Zagreb.
I was able to get a few souvenirs of my day in Croatia....Now onto
Slovenia.
