Another grand day in Romania!!!! Our tour guide Michael picked us up at the
hotel and we started our trek to Transylvania. Two hours later we were in
resort town of Sinaia at the base of the Bucegi range of the Carpathian
Mountains to visit Peles Palace summer home of the King Carol I. This beautiful
Romantic Age, Germanic influenced medieval palace was built in the 1880’s...
the castle is filled with intricate wooden carvings, Carrera marble and all the
modern conveniences. Crossing into Transylvania we went to Bran Castle, a good
example of an authentic medieval fortress dating from the 13th century. The
Royal family converted Bran into a rustic country resort.... the tie to fantasy
author Bram Stoker’s Dracula or Vlad the Impaler Romanian Prince of the South
is a mere marketing ploy but the castle was worth the visit. Following the
Carpathian foothills, we passed the mountaintop Rasnov Castle overlooking the
town of Rasnov. Our next stop was Brasau, a city with a Saxon medieval
history...we made a stop at the White Tower fortification overlooking the town
of Brasau and then we did a quick walking tour of the beautiful town square and
the Black Church. Leaving Brasau we crossed the mountain pass for our 3 hours
return to Bucharest. Just another great day in Romania. We loved our 3 days in
Romania and would like to remain longer but we must move on to Bulgaria
tomorrow. Loving every day!!!!
