This morning I got up very early for sail in, wanted to make sure I was out before the 6:00 am sunrise. While waiting to disembark, we had the great pleasure of visiting with our very old and dear friend Henk Mensink. Henk will be taking over as the Zuiderdam’s Hotel General Manager. Henk is on his first day out of isolation that all crew go through when signing on. It has been almost four years, April 2018 World Cruise, since we last saw Henk…he looked great and is anxious to be back sailing. We have really missed him and his wonderful wife Christel. I have sailed many Grand Voyages with him and Christel. As soon as the ship was cleared Cathy and I made our way to town. Our friend Suzanne who is in quarantine was on her balcony to wave hello to us. I captured a photo of her for all her friends to see she’s looking good and doing well. Today, we followed the walking tour route stopping at all the major places of interest, including the fishing pier, central market, Fait House, Victoria Park, Cathedral, the Malecon and sites along the way. It is a widespread belief that being the receiver of bird droppings is a sign of good luck, based on how uncommon it is to be pooped on by one. Well today at the fishing pier was our lucky day, the pelicans let loose on us. Cathy only reaped a bit of spray, but I got a full load… Maybe I should check out the Casino tonight. Lots of bird photos today, guess I was just in the mood. Of course, a walkabout would not be complete without the hunt for street art. With a heat index of 98F degrees, the masks are hot, but we must protect ourselves since we are transferring to the Rotterdam on February 13, 2022. On our return to the ship, we spent the afternoon in the Retreat. Another great day on the Zuiderdam!
