Again, this morning we were off the ship early, in a cab and to explore the Malecón in Puerto Vallarta. Starting at the northern end, we walked along enjoying the stunning ocean views, artistic sculptures like El Caballito (Boy on the Seahorse) and La Nostalgia (Couple) which reflect the city's culture, and lively street vendors. Along the way, vibrant murals and skilled performers entertain, adding to the lively ambiance. We made a stop at the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the most recognizable symbol of Puerto Vallarta. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is in the main square of the town right across from the City Hall. The church stands high above the other buildings and dominates the downtown skyline. After stopping for a break and we then headed to the South side of old town specifically the Los Muertos pier. The design of the pier has sails and angles that make it look like a sailboat. In fact, from a distance, it really looks like a boat. Finally, reaching Los Muertos Beach Pier overlooking Banderas Bay, we found the area bustling with tourists and locals alike even this early in the day. This is a memorable stroll that captures the heart of Puerto Vallarta. We made our way back north by Olas Altas Street rejoining the Malecon at Lazaro Cardenas Park. Once near the cathedral we grabbed a cab back to the ship. The rest of the day was spent relaxing in the Retreat. It felt a bit strange with cloudy weather with the occasional spit of rain… We have become quite spoiled with our weather on this journey. The next two days are at sea and back to San Diego for turn around.
