So happy I was up early for our sail into Manzanillo… Cruising into Manzanillo offers a breathtaking panorama of the city, the lush green hills and vibrant landscapes that line the coastline. Ann, Cathy and myself were off the ship as soon as we arrived and were cleared by the officials. We walked along the Manzanillo Malecon, a picturesque waterfront promenade that offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding coastline, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. At one end of the promenade is an area dedicated to the signs of the Zodiac with modern art sculptures. The centerpiece of the Malecon is the gigantic figure of a blue sailfish. Manzanillo is known as the sailfish capital of the world. Leaving the Malecon we went to the Virgin of Guadeloupe Church an architectural gem that reflects colonial influences and stands as a spiritual centerpiece of the community. In order to access the upper level of the church, there was a very long flight of stairs. I was the only one of us that made the trek... Our next mission was to find the Manzanillo murals we had read about. The murals of Manzanillo are vibrant expressions of local culture and history, showcasing the town's rich maritime heritage and its connection to the Pacific Ocean. To help recover from COVID, in 2020 a group of artists gathered to captured the essence of everyday life, weaving together themes of community, nature, and tradition. These colorful artworks not only beautify public spaces but also serve as a testament to the town's artistic spirit and cultural pride. Next, we walked to the Cinco de Mayo Mercado. This is a bustling marketplace that showcases a vibrant array of local produce, meat, fish, handmade crafts, and traditional Mexican cuisine. We returned to the ship and spent the afternoon relaxing in the sun. It was a hot day in Manzanillo with a heat index of 100 F. Another great day in the Mexico Riveria…
Jeff.... We've so enjoyed your photo post narratives for so many years. Suggestion: post a map photo showing your country and port for each post. Thank you.
