Koningsdam adventure, Mazatlán, Mexico...

I was up very early in the morning for the sail into Mazatlán, just lovely…  The low-lying areas filled with smoke, drifting along with the morning breezes give a surreal look…  Love it!  Ann, Cathy and I took the first shuttle to the terminal and walked the Blue Line to Machado Square. From the Square, we meandered through some streets surrounding the square before making our way to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Being Sunday morning and mass going on we were not able to visit the interior of the church. We then walked to the Mercado Suarez a great place to experience in the sights and sounds of everyday life in Mazatlán with the vast array of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and clothing vendors. We called our Pulmonia driver Martín to meet us at the church and take us on a tour of the Malecon and the newer part of Mazatlán known as the Golden Zone. Along the Malecon, I was able to see the local fishermen bringing in their daily catch. Pelicans were everywhere looking for a snack! This Pacific coast beachfront walkway spans 13 miles alongside neighborhoods, food vendors, bars, shops and resorts. We went as far as the Mazatlán Marina. Returning to the cruise terminal we made our way back to the ship. The weather today was very pleasant, we spent some time in the Retreat till the fog rolled in.
