I was up very, very early this morning before daybreak for
sail in. Sailing into Loreto, Mexico, unveils breathtaking views of the Sierra
de la Giganta mountains rising majestically against the skyline. We got the
first tender to town. Loreto is a cozy waterfront town in the Baja California
Peninsula sheltered by the Sierra Giganti Mountain range and the Loreto Bay
National Marine Park. We walked along the pier and then the Malecon to the
center of town. The picturesque Malecon provides a scenic waterfront promenade,
perfect for leisurely strolls and viewing the breathtaking sunsets over the Sea
of Cortez. Downtown Loretto, Mexico, offers a charming blend of history and
natural beauty, with the iconic Our Lady of Loreto Mission built by the Jesuits
in 1697 is a must visit for its colonial architecture. For those interested in
local culture, the vibrant art scene and numerous shops showcasing handcrafted
goods create a delightful experience for visitors. Another must see is the
Loreto City Hall, a stunning example of colonial architecture, featuring
vibrant murals that depict the rich history and culture of the region.…make
sure you go upstairs to see the beautiful painted murals. These captivating
artworks not only enhance the building's facade but also serve as a testament
to Loreto's artistic heritage and its significance as a historical landmark. We
came back to the ship after a few hours and spent the remainder of the day
relaxing in the sun. It was a great day.
