Merry Christmas everyone! I was awakened from a deep sleep by my alarm this morning… losing an hour in the time change made it difficult to get up before daybreak and out on deck to capture sail in photos but I persevered. Again, this morning we were off the ship early, in a cab and off to explore Puerto Vallarta’s famous Malecón. After we arrived downtown, we walked back a couple of blocks to capture some wall art before walking the Malecon. Surprisingly, there were a lot of people out doing the same as we were. Today, the ocean was really roaring ashore…definitely rip current alert flag time. The farther north we walked the harder the waves were pounding and there was considerable damage and erosion to Los Muertos Beach. Walking along we enjoyed the stunning ocean views, Christmas decorations, sculptures and vibrant murals which reflect the city's culture. No trip to Puerto Vallarta Old Town would complete without a stop at the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the most recognizable symbol of Puerto Vallarta. The church is located in the main square of the town and dominates the downtown skyline. After stopping for a break midway, we headed the Los Muertos pier. The sail like pier from a distance looks like a sailboat. The Los Muertos Beach Pier overlooks Banderas Bay. The area was really bustling with tourists and locals on this Christmas morning. After leaving the pier, we retraced our steps back to Lazaro Cardenas Park and arranged for a taxi back to the cruise terminal. We spent the remainder of the day relaxing in the sun. The weather was stellar and hopeful our next two days at sea before returning to San Diego will be the same. Definitely, a nice way to spend the Christmas holiday season.
