Key West, Florida...

It was nice to see that Holland America has finally been allowed to visit Key West again. We cleared Immigration early this morning and Ann, Cathy & I went ashore to explore Key West...we headed to Mallory Square home to shops, restaurants, and many of the islands most popular attractions. Here I climbed the tower at the Shipwreck Museum for a different vantage point. The museum was fairly interesting but the view from above wasn’t as good as I had hoped.  Then we started our trek of Duval Street which is a cross mix of New Orleans and Savannah with tons of unique shops and people from all over the world…a few of the stores did not survive COVID but overall things seem to be on the upswing…the street got busy with the mix of weekend tourists and cruise passengers. Cathy and I left Ann shopping and made our way to a 'must do' when you are visiting Key West, a visit the Southernmost USA Buoy and we did…. there was a huge line to take pictures, but we lucked in and were able to get a quick photo of the monument marking the most southern point of the USA…an anchored buoy made of concrete. It was a nice laid-back day, site-seeing and shopping, I kind of over did it acquiring two new Tommy Bahama shirts and some other treasures. We returned to the ship and spent the afternoon in the Retreat…it was a very hot, steamy day in Key West. Tomorrow is turn around day in Fort Lauderdale…. time is marching on! Only 4 more cruises before I head home….
