I was
up early to get some sail in photo and then we took the first tender to the
pier. We hired a driver and made our first stop at the Puerto Montt’s Angelmo
fish and craft market set in the picturesque Angelmo Cove. With the weather
being overcast and misty, we decided to go north to the town of Frutillar, a
German town with houses and gardens reminiscent of the Black Forest area. We
made a quick stop at the Theater of the Lake, a beautiful venue and walked
alongside the clear waters of Lake Llanquihue. Lake Llanquihue is Chile’s
second largest lake… We did a drive
around the lake through Llanquihue National Park and stopped at the beach side
resort town of Lake Llanquihue. This lush region of Chile known as Patagonia is
a stark contrast from our earlier visit to the semi-arid areas of Coquimbo and
Valparaíso. Next, we travelled along the western shore of Lake Llanquihue to
the upscale town of Puerto Varas across the lake from Orsono Volcano. Puerto
Varas known as the City of Roses was colonized by German settlers. This quaint
town overlooks Llanquihue Lake and you can see the snow-cap peaks of Osorno
Volcano in the background. Our journey continued to the Vincente Perez Rosales
National Park to see the Petrohue River Rapids and Petrohue Falls at the foot
of the breathtaking Orsono Volcano. On the way, we stopped and visited with
some cute Alpacas... The waterfalls were
extremely forceful and quite spectacular…we had a very scenic tour today with
great views of the surrounding scenery. To top off the day, we had a spectacular sail
away from Puerto Montt…. The Orsono volcano
and the very impressive Calbuco volcano were looking good.
