2025_26 Oosterdam, El Brujo Glacier and the Chilean Fjords...

On our route south to the Antarctic we entered the Chilean Fjords, the fjords of Chile are heralded as one of the most rugged and untamed places on earth. Early this morning we passed the El Brujo Glacier famous for its blue ice wall…It was spitting rain with fierce winds. Cruising along the Sarmiento Channel we encountered breathtaking scenery through the network of glacier-carved waterways, offering towering cliffs, waterfalls, and stark Patagonian landscapes. For arriving in Punta Arenas, we needed to sail through Summer Pass into the Straits of Magellan. Summer Pass is a narrow shallow passage which our vessel can only pass in a very limited tidal window because it's only 8 meters deep. We arrived at about 16:00 hrs. and had at least 1 meter of water under the keel. The weather was not the best but did clear up by mid-morning and rain in the late afternoon…. Off to Punta Arenas tomorrow, hoping for sunny weather the further we go south!
