Sailing into San Francisco is always a breathtaking experience that captures the essence of California's natural beauty and urban charm. As the ship sails toward the city, the iconic Golden Gate Bridge emerges from the fog, its orange hue contrasting vividly with the cobalt sky. This never gets old… The panoramic views of the rugged Marin Headlands and Alcatraz Island create a picture-perfect backdrop, showcasing its unique landscape. Of course, it must be pretty darn good for me to get up at 0500 to experience this sail in once again… Upon arriving in the city, visitors are greeted by the bustling waterfront of Fisherman’s Wharf, where the air is filled with the tantalizing aroma of fresh seafood and the sounds of sea lions barking at Pier 39. This vibrant area offers a plethora of activities, from indulging in clam chowder served in sourdough bread bowls to exploring the historical significance of the wharf. The nearby aquarium and shops add to the lively atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for families and friends. This is where I headed first on my walkabout today… I had a sketchy outline of where I was going to go but, as usual, I really meandered about being driven by whatever caught my photographer’s eye. From Pier 39, I headed to Fisherman’s Wharf on my way to the Palace of Fine Arts. I passed through Fort Mason along the way. This is such a great place for me to walk because there are photo opportunities at every turn. Lots of reflection shots, my fav! As usual, the Palace of Fine Arts is just a stunning piece of architecture in an idyllic setting. At this point, my plan was to turn back to the ship, but I felt the bridge pulling me in so off I went to Crissy Field Beach to get some nice looks at the bridge. At this point it was time to head back… Over 31,000 steps and 15 miles told me that was enough for the day… Tonight, we have guests coming to the Koningsdam. Diane & John St John are driving up to visit with Leslie, Handler and myself… Dinner in the Tamarind Restaurant should be a wonderful way to cap off a fabulous day!
