Southwest Road Trip 2011 Day 3

Today was an amazing day….  Quite the adventure!  We left bright and early from Clinton Oklahoma and before you knew it we were blazing across the panhandle of Texas.  The scenery was fairly bleak for a while but improved dramatically as we made our way through New Mexico and Arizona.  We took a break and stopped at the Petroglyph National  Monument in Albuquerque which was nice.  I never went there when I lived in Albuquerque.  Then it was off again…  We started seeing beautiful red rock formations as we sped along.  We stopped at Window Rock in Arizona which is dedicated to the Navajo Code Talkers for WWII… nice.  Then things got interesting…  We went to Ft Defiance to check it out and then as we plugged in our hotel in Chinle in the Garmin GPS it sent us off on BIA-7 for 41 miles….  It became interesting after a couple of miles when it became a dirt road which became a mud bog in places…  This went on for about 30 miles, what a ride…  Then the most wonderful thing happened, we came in the back way to the south rim road for Canyon de Chelly…  This baby is just amazing…  It is so beautiful.  This afternoon was just a teaser, we have two days here to check it out fully.  You may get tired of canyon shots.
