Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all you out there! On our route north to the Puerto Montt we entered the Chilean Fjords, the fjords of Chilean are heralded as one of the most rugged and untamed places on earth. Cruising along the Sarmiento Channel in the rain, we encountered lovely scenery through the network of stark Patagonian landscapes. The channel is shallow in some spots and this was obvious when we passed the Santa Leonor shipwreck at Shoal Island. For the ship to be able to continue sailing in the Chilean Fjords, we needed to sail through the shallow Summer Pass. Summer Pass has a is very limited tidal window because it's only 8 meters deep. We arrived at about noon and had 4 feet of water under the keel. The weather cleared abit for our transit of Summer Pass. We have two more days at sea cruising the Chilean Fjords before reaching Puerto Montt…hoping for sunny warm weather as we head north.
