After all the beautiful visits to Cape Horn on this journey, we finally experienced the real deal! Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of South America, is one of the world's most treacherous, legendary sea passages on the planet. Cape Horn is the northern boundary of the Drake Passage and marks where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet. It is famously dangerous, with thousands of sailors having lost their lives attempting to round it. Today we experienced the notorious high waves, black skies and fierce hurricane force winds that did let up enough to allow access to Deck 3. Due to the high winds, we did not get very close to the island to see the lighthouse, chapel, or the Cape Horn Memorial, a sculpture of a flying albatross. After safely rounding the Cape, we set sail for Ushuaia.
