Grand South America & Antarctica Voyage, Sailing the Drake Passage on our way to the Antarctic...

The captain was forward thinking, with the good weather he decided to speed up the ship to cross the Drake Passage arriving to the Antarctic Region a day earlier than scheduled. This enabled us to miss some high seas and wind, great job!!!  We saw our first iceberg this morning which got me excited for a day, hopefully with icebergs. The further south we traveled the frequency of icebergs increased and I was a very happy guy... I was so excited to see the first iceberg sightings, but my original photos of the icebergs were ok but as we moved south there was a considerable improvement in the numbers and the shapes were spectacular. This was perhaps the best day I’ve had sailing down to Antarctica. Photo ops everywhere!!!   Around 1 pm we passed through the South Shetland Islands of Snow and Smith making our way to Deception Island. We decided to wrap up his portion of the blog and pick it up once we arrived at Deception Island…  Stay tuned!
