Grand South America & Antarctica Voyage, Armação dos Búzios, Brazil

Armação dos Búzios (or Búzios) has been a luxury getaway for Brazil's high society since the early 20th century located about 3.5 hours north of Rio. Once upon a time, it was a tranquil fishing village in the southeast of Brazil. Today, Búzios is a lively coastal town. In 1964, when French starlet Brigitte Bardot and her Brazilian boyfriend breezed into Búzios, this sleepy fishing town was put firmly on the global glamour map. What you’ll find is a collection of three small towns — Ossos, Manguinhos and Armacao dos Búzios, known for their nightlife, gorgeous beaches and turquoise waters. This morning I was up early to get the sail-in photos…Ann, Cathy and I got the first tender to town to try to beat the heat of the day. We walked along the waterfront first coming to the statue of Brigitte Bardot erected by the locals in her honor. Walking along the shore is much more than just the statue of Brigitte Bardot; the walkway connects Canto beach with Armação beaches. As we continued our walk, we came upon the sculptures of three fishermen dragging in a net and of Brazil's ex-president Juscelino Kubitschek, creator of the capital city of Brasilia. We followed the street beyond Canto beach to the Santana Chapel, the first church built in Búzios in 1740. We returned to the town center…I went back to the ship and Ann and Cathy stayed in town to do some shopping… We had a 1:30 pm all aboard today. The remainder of the day was spent relaxing by the pool, loving this sunshine. It was a pleasant day in Búzios, a beautiful town. Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
