Cartagena, Colombia...

The COVID roller coaster and the antiquated Passenger Vessel Services Act did not allow us to visit Puerto Limon, Costa Rica today. However, an anchored service call to Cartagena, Columbia with no one (crew or passengers) allowed to disembark provided me with the opportunity to snap some photos from the ship. Actually, it once again, gave me the opportunity to take way too many photos without even a port stop…  Oh well, more to share.  The sail into Cartagena has always been a highlight, such a beautiful skyline…  It was a windy but a sunny day in the Retreat. Tomorrow we are scheduled to receive another COVID test and we are keeping a low profile. Today, I was delighted to have a chat with our new Captain Friso Kramer, a longtime friend. We will be sad to see Captain Frank van der Hoeven leave us, he is a wonderful Captain.  Seems somewhat symmetrical to have the two Captains that we had on the Volendam during the 2020 Grand South America & Antarctica voyage that we were on when the pandemic hit…  They kept us safe then and today is no different…   We are extremely pleased that Captain Friso will take over the helm January 22, 2022 in Puntarenas…

  1. Hi Jeff, Finally out of hibernation. It's been brutally cold here (16 without the wind chill.) Caught up on your adventures. Loving the street art you are discovering. The creators are so very talented. Sorry that Covid has cause so many changes in plans but so thankful all are staying healthy and the weather has been great for enjoying the Retreat. Thank you for posting all the artwork, beautiful churches, markets and of course my favorites the Canal and all the various ships. Happy sailing.
