Volendam Amazon Explorer, Macapá to Santarém

It has been a wonderful and very interesting even unusual sailing from Macapá to Santarém….  Once we picked up the River Pilots, we headed out on our way to Santarém.  The sailing was certainly very scenic and I enjoyed it immensely.  We had a wonderful evening onboard the Volendam, having a great Thanksgiving dinner with Allan & Sandra in the Pinnacle Grill.  We were a bit surprised when sometime after 4:00 the alarms sounded, followed by an announcement that we were stuck in the mud….  It was certainly a shock to the bridge sine they were sailing in deep water according to the charts and River pilots….  It just shows the unpredictably of the Amazon, a river that is ever changing….  Anyway, due to the great efforts of the Captain and crew, we freed ourselves 7 hours later and we were on our way again.  It was a great sailing filled with scenic beauty.  Once we arrived into Santarém, I walked into town to catch some photos before it got dark.  We leave sometime in the morning, after hull inspections are performed and then we will be off to Manaus…..  Great voyage, the Captain and Hotel Director are doing a great job and certainly handle challenges in a very professional manner…..  Loving every day!!!!
