2025_26 Oosterdam, Scenic cruising the Chilean fjords...

Today we cruised the Ladrillero Channel and past Wager Island.  This channel is part of the intricate, fjord-heavy coastline of the Chilean Patagonia. Wager island famous as the site where the British warship HMS Wager wrecked in 1741, leading to a dramatic story of survival, mutiny, and conflict among the castaways. The island is known for its harsh, cold, and windy conditions, which challenged the survivors who endured months of hardship, including scurvy, before some escaped and others were rescued. The event became a sensational story, detailed in books like The Wager, and led to a court-martial and significant changes in naval discipline. The scenic cruising was a bit of a bust…For the most part, we sailed through heavy clouds, fog and rain with poor visibility of the surrounding scenery…Oh well Mother Nature calls the shots!
