2025_26 Oosterdam, Antarctica Day 3, Part 1 of 2...

A new day and nothing but sunshine…we spent a couple of hours off the coast of Isla Davis Island. Isla Davis is in the Palmer Archipelago a small, uninhabited island in Antarctica. It's located between Brabant and Liege Islands. The scenery was spectacular, icebergs, glaciers, seals, penguins and whales. Northeast of Brabant Island we moved along the coast of Liege Island. Liege Island is a snow-covered mountainous island giving us excellent scenic views. Just before noon we came alongside Two Hummock Island. Two Hummock is an ice-covered island in the Palmer Archipelago, known for its two prominent rocky peaks (Modvec and Bauche) that give the island its name. All I can say is the whales were very active today. Late this afternoon we reached Cierva Cove. This Cove is a breathtaking and pristine coastal area in Antarctica with abundant wildlife. Situated along the western Antarctic Peninsula near the Gerlache Strait, this picturesque cove feels like one of those classic Antarctic spots that show off just how wild and magical the continent can be. Three glaciers flow into Cierva Cove, breaking off into all sorts of floating icebergs that drift around the cove like a natural art display. It’s also a great place for spotting animals…seals often lounge on the ice, whales show up to feed on the krill, penguins skim the water and seabirds soar overhead. Argentina’s Primavera Summer Research Station is located on an exposed rocky peninsula nearby, a group of small red buildings and several radio antennae. The station looks like a very cold workplace indeed... Given the great weather we had today, and our first ever visit to these areas in Antarctica, I took way too many photos (2000+). Still loving Antarctica…
