Another beautiful morning, much windier and colder but we did have a bit of sunshine. We began the morning sailing the Neumayer Channel. Named after German explorer George von Neumayer, the channel is a popular, scenic route for cruise and expedition ships. The Neumayer Channel is a stunning, narrow, S-shaped waterway in Antarctica's Palmer Archipelago, separating Wiencke and Doumer Islands, famous for dramatic ice cliffs, glaciers, penguins, seals, and whales. We slowly wound through the frozen labyrinth until we made it to Port Lockroy. This is one of Antarctic’s most popular stops, the unique British post office located in the heart of the Antarctic Peninsula at Port Lockroy. This seasonal outpost operates in the summer by a group from the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust. Penguin Post Office lies about 700 miles south of Argentina and Chile. We sent a few postcards which may be delivered in 4 to 5 months from now. The crew provided some food for the group, a tradition for ships that visit Port Lockroy’s Penguin Post Office. We left the Penguin Post Office and are heading to Lemaire Channel.
