Amsterdam 2024, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Day 2...

We started our day with a train ride to Leiden from Amsterdam’s Central station. The weather was sunny and pleasant for our walking tour of Leiden. Our first stop was the De Valk Windmill then we walked along a canal to the De Put Windmill and Morspoort the city’s western gate. We found the home of Rembrandt, his statue and the Rembrandt Gardens. We continued our walk along the picturesque Rapenburg Canal through the Leiden University campus including the stunning Academy Museum of History building…of all Leiden's streets and canals, Rapenburg is known as the most beautiful in the city and that it is! Leiden’s university is the oldest in the Netherlands. We toured the interior of St. Peter’s Church and then walked along the canal through the Butter Market area to city hall. Again, crossing Korenbeurs Bridge past the Highland Church of Leiden ending at the Leiden Fort…sitting on top of the only hill for miles around. Leiden is called “Little Amsterdam” and this name could not be a better fit. It has the uniqueness of Amsterdam since it is also built on canals but without the hordes of tourists…We loved the atmosphere, the canals and the architecture of Leiden. We returned to Leiden Central Station and made our way back to Amsterdam. Another great day discovering the Netherlands.
