2020 Grand South America & Antarctica Voyage, Ushuaia, Argentina, Part 2 of 2

Again, I was up early for sail in photos and the winds were so strong, I really had to hang on to keep from falling. This morning clouds and rain cleared and produced a stellar sunny day...the sun gods were with us for sure. With Ann still being on the injured list, our friend John joined Cathy and I on our tour. On the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, at the southern tip of South America, sits the Argentinian city of Ushuaia, known as the southernmost city in the world, or sometimes, “the end of the world.” Our guide and driver Nicolas picked us up at the ship and we did a tour of the city of Ushuaia, capturing images of the harbor, the former prison, the city, the people, the mountains, and nearby glaciers. Next, we traveled east of Ushuaia towards the Tierra Fuego National Park stopping at the world’s most southern golf course and the End of the World Train station. After entering the park, we visited several attractions including: Beagle Channel, the Pipo River cascade, the Ensenada Bay and the Laguna Verde. At Lapatala Bay we went on a nature walk through the woods along the water until we arrived at a great lookout point with a wonderful panoramic view of the bay. Before leaving the park, we stopped for coffee break and the most absolutely delicious cakes made by Nicolas’s wife. Returning to Ushuaia we had a tour of the area similar to the Favelas of Rio where the squatters have built homes high above the city with the best views in town by far. Nicolas left us downtown so we could do some shopping as we made our way back to the ship. The weather was beautiful and we had a great day enjoying the Andes and the region’s forest, rivers, lakes and peat bogs. Tonight, we are watching the Super Bowl while I’ve been working on this silly blog….  on our way to Antarctica!
