2020 Grand South America & Antarctica Voyage, Buzios, Brazil

This morning I was up early to get the sail-in photos….  Getting a little sleepy with the long days and early wakeups.  Ann, Cathy and I got the first tender to town excited about our first time visit to Buzios. Originally, a sleepy fishing village, Buzios was brought to the world's attention in 1964 by Brigitte Bardot who vacationed here for a number of years. So off we went to find the statue erected by the locals in her honor. Walking along the Orla Bardot is much much more than just the statue of Bridget Bardot; it's an entire walkway connecting Canto beach with Armacao beach. This is also where we found the sculptures of three fishermen dragging in a net and of Brazil's ex-president JK or Juscelino Kubitschek, creator of the capital city of Brasilia. We followed the street beyond Canto beach to the Santana Chapel, the first church built in Buzios in 1740. The church is built on a hill with striking views of Ossos beach. The scenery is beautiful...There is no high-rise development here and buildings are all villas and small hotels with rustic, tiled roofs which blend in very well. We returned to the town center along the Rua das Pedras that winds through the town leading to Plaza Santos Dumont in the cultural heart of the city...the area features shopping, restaurants, bars and nightlife. We returned to the ship before noon and relaxed by the pool. It was another very hot day but we enjoyed this laid-back ocean peninsula very much before our next action filled stop Rio de Janeiro….
