The cruise through the Beagle Canal was picturesque to
say the least. The ship traveled along Glacier Alley past stunning mountains,
waterfalls and glaciers. Our cruise ship is dwarfed in the face of these
ancient masses of ice and rock...The snow capped Andes Mountains were striking,
as were the glaciers. The photo ops are endless...nature at its best! By early
evening we had made our way to Cape Horn the southernmost point in South
America. Cape Horn is a rocky point in the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. It's
surrounded by wild seas off the southern tip of South America where the Pacific
and Atlantic oceans converge. An isolated lighthouse, meteorological station
and an albatross-shaped Cape Horn Seafarers memorial which commemorates the
lives of thousands of seafarers who perished attempting to sail around the
cape. The Captain gave us a couple of
hours at Cape Horn, circumnavigating the island for a great look…. The conditions were amazingly good! It was an incredibly beautiful day for
scenic cruising… loved it so much I took
over 1100 photos…. Was really feeling
it!
