Write up from part 1: Today we took a tour mainly focusing on the WWII events on Saipan… I went with John, Brad, Gloria, Bill & Doug. Our guide, Scott, was extremely knowledgeable and provided a nice experience. We didn’t have Wi-Fi like Noel provided but that’s OK, he just spoiled me.. Our tour included highlights such as a visit to landing beaches, Suicide cliff, Banzai cliff, and numerous other bunkers and war artifacts around the island. Once again, the rains came and went, getting a little tired of the rains at this point. However… the Captain gave us an update of Tropical Storm Wipha who will be affecting us for the next couple of days….. Anyway, I digress… The island is just lovely and the people are very friendly. We had a wonderful day learning about the WWII history for Saipan and seeing a lot of beautiful scenery…. Next up, two sea days on the way to Japan. Again, I am publishing 2 parts to the blog to get more photos in…. I am out of control!

Hi Jeff...
ReplyDeleteSaipan, being a trust territory of the US, controlled by the US, apparently the locals must support prez-BO, as his cardboard cut-out apparently welcomes you ashore. Good photo. Interesting. With our 17%-government shutdown continuing, do you see any of that budget issue affecting US activities on the island? That should make for some interesting table talk tonight. For what it's worth.... If there are any GOP supporters aboard, the polls are really slamming their actions in the 'House'. In fact, there are now moneyed business supportive groups who claim to want to financially support alternative GOP primary candidates to go up against the dog-mired 'tea-party' entrenched party radicals. Wow... what a game!
You're having what looks to be a wonderful time. Enjoy!

Actually that cutout is at a gift shop.
DeleteHi Jeff,
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos as usual. Loved the clouds and wonderful sunset. Thanks too for the submarine!
Glad to see your knee is holding up and the trip is progressing well.

In Guam & Saipan any memorials or parks run by the US National Parks were closed, disappointing to many vets
ReplyDeletestill much to see in Saipan even if when it rains or the US govt shuts down!
