What an amazing day…. I have waited a long time to successfully visit the Falkland Islands. When I awake this morning it was a bit uncomfortable looking at the dense fog and listening to the fog horn. I wasn’t too optimistic about the start of our day. Fortunately, the Captain successfully got us there and tender operations were able to be conducted. I was on the first tender with Ed, Becky & Brad and we were off on our Falkland adventure. We were heading to Volunteer Point to see the King Penguins…. And, as a bonus, we were able to see hundreds of Gentoo and Magellanic Penguins as well. The 2 ½ hour drive to get there was a challenge. It was such a rough, 4 wheel driving experience. The day could not have turned out better. The town was pretty special as well. The people on this island are just wonderful…. Now, on to the Antarctic!

Jeff we are so glad you finally got to see the penguins you have waited to see for so long. Em loved the port she said it reminded her of her school in England and smelt like home. I don't think you can get better than that. It was a great picture you took of her the other day in her grandmothers dress.
ReplyDeleteThanks

ReplyDeleteGreat photos! So glad that the day cleared for you guys and that your driver was able to get you to the penguins.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get a chance, can you explain all the boots on the poles? I have my idea of why, but I think I'd rather know the real story.

ReplyDeleteWhat's with all the boots--on poles?
Not sure about the story of the boots.... I just know it is a place they call "Boot Hill", I assumed it was a bit of tongue in cheek.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED your penguin photos. You are an awesome photographer. Thanks for sharing your adventure with the rest of us.
