Colorado Roadtrip Day 9

Today we continued on the same theme as we have for the last week or so, following the Lewis & Clark Trail.  Today's segment was traveling through the section known as the Northwest Passage.  We started in Missoula, Montana and trekked along US12 which followed one of the most scenic drives in the USA along the Lochsa & Clearwater Rivers.  Our first 150 miles was purely scenic driving along the river.  We stopped and explored the surrounding forest areas at Lolo Pass looking for critters....  Found a few!  Then we stopped at the Kooskia National Fish Hatchery.  We saw over 650,000 baby salmon....  That's a lot of fish!  Next we stopped at some Nez Perce historic stops along the Nez Perce Trail.  We stopped at the Looking Glass Camp, the Heart of the Monster and the Canoe Camp.  It gave us some insights into the indian lore.  Our final stop was checking out the Dworshak Dam in Orofino Idaho.... pretty impressive.  Too bad they wouldn't let me inside and fool with the controls....  We are now in Clarkston, Washington now... long way from home.  Tomorrow, Hell's Canyon Jet Boat ride....

  1. If you get far enough into WA...to Dayton, to be exact, stop at Patit Creek restaurant for lunch or dinner! Just a little green house as you come into town! If you want to take a two hour detour to the west, from Clarkston, you are welcome to visit the Tri Cities! I have an empty house across the street I could put you up in! The Snake, Yakima and Columbia Rivers all come together here!
