Koningsdam adventure, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii...

After 5 days at sea, we made our first stop at Kona, Hawaii. I was up before sunrise to capture our sailing into Kona. Lisa, Jim, Cathy and I got the first tender to town. Kailua-Kona is a town on the west coast of Hawaii Island (the Big Island). Kona, Hawaii is best known for its world-renowned Kona coffee, grown in the region's volcanic soil, and its association with the Ironman World Championship triathlon which is held annually in Kailua-Kona. We had a pretty laid-back day in Kona…wandering around town taking in the sites and doing some shopping. Walking in historic Kona we passed; Hulihee Palace, the former royal vacation home dating from 1838. Mokuaikaua Church, from the 1800s, Hawaii’s oldest Christian church. Leaving the shoppers behind, I returned to the ship early and spent the rest of the day taking in the beautiful weather.  Later, in the afternoon, some clouds started rolling in, so I took the opportunity to deal with the blog.   End of story…
